The Festa dei Sette Pesci, or Feast of the Seven Fishes (also known as La Vigilia) is a southern Italian religious tradition from medieval times that has become, more or less, a really good modern-day reason to eat lots of delicious seafood dishes.

Mussels, calamari, shrimp, tuna, octopus, smelts, and scungilli are some of the many foods often included in the feast, but Baccalà Indorato e Fritto, or Fried Baccalà is almost an absolute requirement -- not a bad thing at all, since fried baccalà is absolutely delicious!
